Catching Up With Chuck

Thanks to Hulu, I am now caught up with the current season of Chuck. I haven’t seen all of first season (including the pilot), since Hulu only keeps the most recent episodes, but I’m pretty much up to speed.

I wish I’d started watching last season. I’ve discovered that this is one of the few shows where I find myself laughing out loud, so I’m sorry I’ve missed so many episodes. I see a DVD set in my future.

Next, I need catch up on Heroes and Terminator. The latter I would have seen if my local Fox affiliate were capable of keeping a signal on the air. I really shouldn’t have to get cable or satellite to watch an over-the-air broadcast.

Catching Up With Pop Culture

The great thing about Netflix is that I now have a queue of movies that the rest of the world saw a long time ago. Some of them are movies that anyone of my age and field should have watched long before now. (I’m not going to list them, but I am suitably embarrassed by some of the gaps in my repertoire of viewed movies.) I’m also getting the chance to see movies I haven’t watched in ages, like Fight Club and Fargo.

Sadly, my next movies haven’t arrived yet, so I’m going to have to review (as in “re-view”) some of the ones I own. I haven’t watched The Graduate in a while, and someone just lent us The Chronicles of Riddick. I know they’re not the same quality of film, but I’ve heard that Riddick is worth seeing. (And I really liked Pitch Black, so I’m willing to give it a shot.)

Wow, look at all those links. I almost don’t want to say that I watched Wedding Crashers tonight, just because of the massive linkage in this post. At least they’re not affiliate links, right? Wedding Crashers was mostly funny, if a bit too long. We did watch the “uncorked version,” which is eight minutes longer. I can see why they cut it down, and I may have to compare it to the theatrical version some day.

Juno… Finally

Finally watched Juno tonight. I know it’s been a year since it came out, but it was always out at the video store when I tried to rent it. That store closed (farewell to the clerk who told me I’d want to watch Casino Royale over and over; yeah, not so much…) but I have Netflix now.

Juno was waiting when I got home. It was good. Ellen Page was solid; she was funny, clever, and moving. The moment in the minivan, when she finishes sobbing but her face is still twitching and not quite over the emotion, was great.

I knew I would probably like Juno long before I watched it. I pulled down a copy of the screenplay around Oscar time and read the first few pages. I was hooked in and had to force myself to stop reading it before I spoiled the movie. Now that I’ve watched it, I’m going to have to read the screenplay and see if it still hooks me.
